Questions Are Welcome

Disciples believe that all members of the church are both free and responsible to discern for themselves the identity and work of the Lord Jesus Christ in the light of Holy Scripture, the one authoritative text of the church. They are free to interpret and study for themselves, but they are also responsible in community to be accountable for their witness. This means that, while each is entitled to his or her opinion, each is also responsible to all the others to demonstrate its validity. Christ comes to each of us in His own way, but there is in fact only one Christ. For this reason, dialogue, questions, theories, opinions are all perfectly "legal." At the same time, we hold ourselves and each other accountable to make sure our witness and that of Holy Scripture are not at odds.
